Comprehensive Cardiac Care

We skillfully perform testing and imaging then expertly diagnosis your condition and provide compassionate lifelong cardiovascular care.

Clinical Cardiology

Shortness of breath. Irregular heartbeat. Chest pain. All could be signs of existing heart problems or signals that it’s time to take preventative measures. We determine the right treatment after you or your primary care physician see a warning sign in a symptom or test. Our clinical cardiologists are your personal guides to effective heart care. We explain complex problems in simple terms and put you in the care of the specialist for your condition. We guide your healthy lifestyle changes. And, we’re there when you need imaging, research or testing.

Cardiac Imaging

Our cardiologists rely on pictures of your heart to see its condition at rest and under stress to determine the proper therapies. For instance, we conduct a heart positron emission tomography scan – a PET scan – while you’re at rest, using a radioactive substance that helps us see how well blood is flowing in your heart. In comparison, a heart stress test involves you walking on a treadmill or pedaling an exercise bike as an ultrasound image is made of your heart. We also perform CTAs, MRIs and more.

Cardio-Oncology

Cardio-oncology focuses on the overlap between cancer treatment and heart health. Increased longevity exposes people to more cancer risk as they age. And while some therapies effectively treat cancer, some treatments lead to poor cardiovascular outcomes, including heart failure. We help identify at-risk patients, recommend preventative measures and provide collaborative care by integrating heart treatment with programs from the Northside Hospital Cancer Institute.

Electrophysiology

Your heart creates electrical signals to regulate your pulse. Northside Hospital Cardiovascular Institute’s Electrophysiology Studies – sometimes called EP or EPS – test these electrical signals. Electrophysiology helps us evaluate abnormal heart rhythms (arrhythmias) and determine the best therapy (often an ablation). Special catheters (thin, flexible tubes) are inserted in the leg and neck to sense the heart’s electrical currents. We also specialize in electrical device implantation, like pacemakers and ICDs.

Heart Failure

The heart’s main job is pumping blood to all parts of your body. Heart failure occurs when the heart muscle loses the power, efficiency or structural integrity to pump blood. Northside Hospital Cardiovascular Institute treats, controls and monitors all stages and forms of heart failure. We provide easy-to-understand explanations about your treatment options as well as what’s happening during heart failure. We deliver the resources to cope with heart failure, including heart imaging, condition diagnosis, diet management, weight control and nursing support.

Interventional Cardiology

Interventional cardiology is catheter-based treatment of heart diseases with thin, flexible tubes. These advanced, noninvasive techniques improve procedures previously performed as highly invasive open-heart surgeries. Interventional cardiology promotes faster recovery time. Northside Hospital Cardiovascular Institute specialties include percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI); atherectomy; ECMO; and structural heart treatment.
